Located just south of Eureka Springs, Trigger Gap is a scenic mountain pass where the Ozark hills meet the free-flowing Kings River.
History & Heritage:
Civil War Roots: The surrounding area, including nearby Pension Mountain, was settled by Civil War veterans. The mountain earned its name because many of the Union veterans who lived there drew federal pensions, a rare source of steady cash in the post-war Ozarks.
The Kings River: This undammed river has remained a wild lifeline for the region since families from Alabama first settled its banks in the early 1800s.
Back-road rider/driver appeal:
The ride through the gap on Hwy 221 offers tight switchbacks and sweeping views of the Kings River valley. It’s a favorite for those wanting a remote, "off-the-beaten-path" feel without venturing too far from civilazation.
